I've been collecting some Valorie Wells fabrics since this summer... and I know there's gotta be a quilt in here somewhere.
It can't be too complicated because the fabrics are really bright and busy. But I kinda want to do something slightly more exciting than my usual "lots & lots of little squares" motif. I found this pattern in a Fons & Porter magazine, and thought it might work really well.
I was thinking of using the busiest of the fabrics in the center square, then the brown polka dot fabric in the middle layer, then the bright colors on the outside layer.
And I found this pattern in a more recent Fons & Porter magazine.
I was thinking of dividing up the fabrics between the browns & brights and using half-square triangles, not the half-rectangle triangles as shown.
So what do you think? Diamonds or Squares? Something else entirely? Should I give up on these fabrics... let them marinate in the stash for a while?

Squares. Totally the squares. I think that will look awesome in those fabrics.
Squares!! Squares are very hip and modern and will suit those funky fabrics really well. Actually though, both patterns are good ones.
Isn't Fons and Porter a good magazine? My husband let my subscription lapse and then started up Quiltmaker instead and it isn't quite as good.
I like the first idea, the squares. Make the central squares nice and big if you dig those fabrics; it's a good setting to show them off.
Squares! Can't go wrong with squares!
I'm going for squares too. With fabrics as jazzy as these it will look stunning.
first, those fabrics kick a whole lotta ass.
second, SQUARES! i think the diamond pattern will result in an eye-boggling composition that may result in epileptic fits. where the squares will really allow the awesomeness of the fabrics to shine.
I vote squares.
Wow... was not expecting total unanimity. But okay!
Oh and Suzy, I do love Fons & Porter (Love of Quilting? - all the names sound the same). I like Quilting Arts and some of the other magazines for inspiration but those are the only ones with projects I'd really want to do.
I too go for the squares!! Have fun, fab fabrics there!
I say squares. The fabric is WAY to fun for the diamond pattern! And I would agree to put the busiest pattern in the centers... it is going to be really cute when it is done.
Circles! I vote Circles!
I wanted to be contrary and cutting edge. ;)
I love 'so bright it burns out your retnas' kinda stuff so yeah, kick it bright bay-bee....
Well I feel like I'm jummping on the bandwagon, but I go with the squares, too. I think it would really show off the fabrics.
Thanks everyone.
Mags ... =P
