Calling it a day...April Fool's day that is. ;)

I've been thinking about this for a while, and I think it's time. I've learned a ton from my months in Thailand, and experienced a lot of personal growth. But there's just been one cockroach too many in my life, one crack too many in the sidewalk. The day has finally come, and I've decided to go back to the states. No... I didn't make it a full year, but I don't care.

I was doing my taxes today, and I just realized how much I miss Portland, the rain and the misty skies, tri-met and the slow predictable routine of living somewhere that I actually understand. I'm tired of the sun and the heat, I've gotten my fill of the beaches and am not sure I could choke down one more plate of fried rice.

Nope... today is the day. I'm booking a flight to Tennessee. I'm going to spend a few weeks... maybe a month or so with my family, maybe get a job to save some money for a bit before going back to Oregon. It's time. I hope you enjoyed reading about my little adventures, and misadventures, as much as I enjoyed having them.

I think you were very brave to do it in the first place, and you would have always wondered if you should have done it if you hadn't. I think you gave it a good shot and now you probably know yourself a little better, being isolated from the familiar. Good luck in whatever you try next.

You lasted a lot longer than I would have. You should be proud of yourself for accomplishing something as monumental as uprooting and moving to a foreign country.

Man you've traveled farther than most people I meet...

And remember--there's always New Jersey-wuhahahaha!!!

Bezzie called it first. ;) April 1st comes a bit earlier here in Thailand. Just thought I'd have a little fun. And no, Miss Violet - I don't miss the rain. =P

i totally fell for it also. i had this whole comment written in my head about how i couldn't believe it had almost been a year and how awesome it was that you did it in the first place which ended in a welcome back to the fatherland.

anyway, i'm glad i don't have to write that one. it was pretty sappy.

well played.

Totally fell for it! I thought it was a pretty quick change of heart from deciding to move to Bangkok to going home but I know how I was like when I was homesick and abroad - I changed my mind about going home 19034893 times a day.

I'm glad you'll be sticking around, I like reading about life in Thailand!

You're kidding, right? I think the Portland rain is a dead giveaway... as are the taxes.

I kind of fell for it too, but I've been reading your blog long enough to know that spending a bunch of time with your family in Tennessee is not preferable to the frustrations of Thailand!
